Christmas eve is upon us and thus the two of us at Twin Creation Games wishes you a nice christmas and happy holidays!

With the christmas spirit hanging in the air we at Twin Creation Games have decided to give out a small christmas update to Stay Alive including some christmas themed skins for all the characters.

Link

Changelog
  • Added Santa Man skin for Mail Man
  • Added Santa Paladin skin for Paladin
  • Added Reindeer skin for Beast
  • Added Christmas Magician Skin for Illusionist
  • Adjusted lava hitboxes on the Volcano map
  • Optimized our interface allowing the use of WASD, Arrow Keys and Mouse during navigation.

As you might have noted the progress during the holidays have been slightly slower than usual. This is due to us giving ourselves a small break to enjoy time with our friends and family. Once everything is settled we promise to be back in full force giving out new updates on our projects(Especially Arena Warriors) on a weekly basis.

Until then!

Stay Alive, Trailer and Release

It got a bit hectic yesterday and as a result the blog did not come out on time. For this we apologize, but as they say, better late than never! So here is this weeks dev blog!

Stay Alive, the final touches

As it currently stands Stay Alive is more or less finished and we are hoping to release a trailer at the start of the comming week with the release happening next friday. The last thing we need to complete is main menu screen.

As outlined in the previous weeks blog we wanted to have a main menu background showing of the different map and the intense gameplay. This serves 2 purposes.
  1. It catches the players eye, increasing the chance of the player giving the game a try.
  2. It introduces the player to the fundemental mechanics of the game easing the player into the gameplay experience.

To make this menu feature a reality we thought of several different approaches.
  • Recreating the stages with a panning camera, programming several actions for each.

This approach would give us a lot of control, but would also be extremely time consuming to do, so we quickly shelved this approach.

  • Creating an animation of the maps with action going on.

Extremely time consuming if we were aiming for high quality and the size of the spritesheets would become way beyound reasonable. This idea was shafted within the first 20 min.

  • Using Movie Texture on flat planes with a panning camera.

This is the approach we eventually decided on. Outside of having to create a build with no visible interface on the screen this is a rather straightforward concept. Film a short video, add it in Unity in order and have the camera pan over them. With the right settings the file size shouldnt get out of hand as they are very short clips, it allows for easy changes(Just record again) and its not as time consuming compared to the other methods.

After deciding on the method we ran into some issues with importing clips into Unity, but this has since been fixed. All that remains now is to create the executable(Without interface) and do the actual recording, which should be doable within the next couple of days.

We are hoping you are looking forward to the release just as much as we are!

Small Arena Game Update

With most of our focus being on Stay Alive the past week there has not been any major changes to Arena Warriors this week. With that said, we did finish the first version of the Crystalos enemy Sprite Sheet!
Picture
As you can see its quite large! Unlike a lot of the other enemies we have made for the game until now, the Crystalos is a higher tier monster and thus have more than 1 attack. The Crystalos states/commands are as follows:
  • Move
  • Attack
  • Tail attack if the player attacks from behind
  • Leap attack
Due to the sheer number of animations that had to be done the Crystalos sprite sheet took a lot longer to complete compared to most enemies.

Closing Words

That is it for this weeks update! We hope you have a splendid weekend and are looking forward to share more news with you next week!
